Complex social challenges do not arrive neatly separated by sector. The same issue can touch homes, schools, workplaces, communities, and the systems connecting them. What happens in one setting can shape what happens in another.
Evidence & BEYOND brings specialist thematic expertise in violence against women and children prevention and response, parenting and family strengthening, education and whole-school approaches and workplace gender-based violence and harassment prevention.
These are distinct fields of expertise, but our systems perspective helps us recognise where they intersect and what a meaningful response may require.
Across these themes and beyond them, we also bring cross-cutting expertise in research, evidence use, and research uptake.
Violence against women and children takes many forms and is shaped by the relationships, norms, institutions and systems surrounding people’s lives. Evidence & BEYOND works alongside organisations to understand, prevent and respond to violence across the life course and in diverse settings.
Effective prevention requires attention to more than individual incidents. We examine the unequal power, harmful social norms, and structural conditions that allow violence to occur or continue while also considering the systems responsible for prevention, protection and response.
This understanding helps shape stronger programmes, policies, prevention approaches, response mechanisms and accountability systems that protect safety, dignity and wellbeing.
They grow up in homes, relationships, and everyday experiences that shape their safety, wellbeing, and development. Our work in parenting and family strengthening starts with those realities and the conditions that help families thrive.
Well-designed parenting and family strengthening programmes can support nurturing relationships, responsive caregiving, positive discipline, children’s development and wellbeing, and stronger family functioning. They can also reduce caregiver stress, promote greater equality within families, and create important opportunities to prevent violence against children and women in the home.
Evidence & BEYOND works alongside governments and organisations to strengthen the design, implementation, evidence base and scale-up of parenting and family strengthening programmes. We bring together research, implementation experience and the realities of family life to shape approaches that are relevant, practical and responsive to the contexts in which families live.
Schools are more than places of learning. Children’s experiences are shaped by relationships with teachers and peers, school leadership, families, everyday practices and the wider education system. Strengthening what happens in schools therefore requires looking beyond any one classroom, programme or group of people.
Evidence & BEYOND works alongside schools, education actors, governments and other partners to strengthen whole-school approaches that respond to these different influences. Our experience is particularly strong in school violence prevention and creating safer, more inclusive learning environments, engaging learners, teachers, school leaders, families and communities while strengthening the policies, practices and systems that support them.
We bring together evidence, implementation experience and the perspectives of school communities to shape approaches that are practical within real education systems, supported by those who will deliver them, and able to strengthen both learner wellbeing and the environments in which learning takes place.
Workplaces shape people’s everyday experiences of safety, dignity and belonging. Whether staff feel safe, respected and able to speak up is influenced by organisational culture, leadership, workplace norms and the systems designed to prevent and respond to harm.
Evidence & BEYOND works alongside employers and organisations to strengthen both the prevention of and response to gender-based violence and harassment in the workplace. We support organisations in putting in place the policies, reporting and referral pathways, response procedures, leadership responsibilities, and other systems needed to prevent harm and respond appropriately when concerns are raised.
But having the right policies and systems is only part of the work. We help organisations bring them into everyday practice by developing practical training and awareness tools, facilitating staff learning and mentoring sessions, and supporting leaders and teams to understand their roles and responsibilities. This helps ensure that prevention and response systems are not only in place but understood and used by staff across the organisation.
Across our focus areas, and beyond them, Evidence & BEYOND brings cross-cutting expertise in research, evidence use and research uptake. We help organisations generate credible evidence, make sense of what is already known, and strengthen the pathways through which research and learning inform policy, practice and decision-making.
This expertise can be built into work from the beginning, from shaping research questions and planning for use, to supporting interpretation, engagement and uptake once findings emerge. It also allows us to support organisations working outside our core thematic areas where strong research, learning or evidence-to-action support is needed.
Whether you are working to prevent violence, strengthen families, create safer schools or workplaces, or put research and evidence to work, Evidence & BEYOND brings specialist depth alongside an understanding of the context in which change needs to happen.
Tell us what you are trying to solve. We’ll work alongside you to identify what matters most and shape an evidence-informed response that is practical, relevant and responsive to your context.
